When I was approached by WiseGuise to collaborate on a Special Edition mask for Black History Month, I was ecstatic. For one, not many black artists are given a platform of this magnitude to not only create but to share their art with the masses. Our current climate has unearthed the dark underbelly of this country and has also shed light on the unsung hero that continues to make this world turn; the black woman.
My joy lies in a never-ending mission to find unique and varying avenues to amplify the stories of the unheard and the everyday heroes who continue to shape the world. As artists, it's our collective responsibility to push the culture forward in new and exciting ways; I'm so very excited to collaborate with WiseGuise on this collection of one-of-a-kind masks bursting with color, energy and spirit. My hope is that this collection will serve as critical protection in these dire times and as a reminder of the great change that is to come. - Chris Jordan

About The Artist
Chris Jordan is a multidisciplinary artist, architect, and impressionist painter best known for his large-scale portraiture. Born in Newark, NJ, he earned his BA from the Pratt Institute School of Architecture.
From a young age, Jordan developed an interest in portraiture and its connection with his environment and community. Jordan draws much of his inspiration from contemporary culture and artists such as Kara Walker, Kehinde Wiley, and Yayoi Kusama.
Jordan combines a wide range of elements into his work. These items include abstracted portraiture of the black gaze, literature of the Harlem Renaissance, his battle with mental health, and the duality of being a black & queer artist.
